Step Inside This Upstate New York Farmhouse Reimagined For Timeless Living

Step Inside This Upstate New York Farmhouse Reimagined For Timeless Living

Tucked into the lush, storybook landscape of Bedford, NY, this traditional home had charm to spare, but it needed a thoughtful refresh. When we were brought on to reimagine the space, staying true to its Colonial roots was non-negotiable.

We wanted to celebrate its history while giving it a fresh, elevated feel that would suit our empty nester clients for years to come.

With old-world millwork, updated layouts, and elegant new bathrooms, we created a modern farmhouse vibe that feels both timeless and personal. The result? A forever home that honors the past while embracing the present.

The entryway feels both practical and charming, thanks to thoughtful design choices that echo the home’s exterior.

Cream shiplap wraps around a cozy built-in bench, perfect for slipping shoes on or off as you come and go. Storage was clearly a priority here, with two neatly tucked-away cupboards keeping clutter hidden.

What really brings it to life are the vintage-inspired touches—from the gingham cushion to the floral print on the wall, all playing off the whimsical wallpaper in the sweetest way.

This kitchen nails that perfect blend of rustic charm and modern polish. Bright and airy with soft cream tones and crisp whites, it feels inviting from the moment you step in.

The natural textures—wooden bar stools, handcrafted ceramics, and pleated pendant lights—add warmth and depth. Marble countertops and a classic subway-tiled backsplash bring just the right amount of luxury without feeling overdone.

It’s a space that respects tradition but doesn’t feel stuck in the past, striking a beautiful balance between old and new.

The breakfast nook feels like a natural extension of the home, thanks to thoughtful millwork and built-ins that echo the wood paneling outside.

Even though the furnishings are minimal, the craftsmanship speaks volumes and adds plenty of personality. Cream-colored walls and cabinetry are grounded by rich dark wood floors, while an antique-inspired round table and woven rattan chairs create a relaxed, welcoming spot to gather.

Overhead, a soft purple pendant adds just the right pop of color to make the whole space feel special.

While the breakfast nook leans casual, the dining room steps things up with a more formal and classic feel. Designed to reflect the home’s Colonial roots, the space features soaring ceilings and tall windows that flood the room with natural light.

Traditional wallpaper, soft blue drapes, and an antique dining set bring elegance without feeling stuffy. The designers carried the same blue and white palette through this space too, creating a cohesive look that feels both graceful and grounded in heritage.

Gold touches in the dining room, like the curtain rods and pendant light, add just enough elegance without tipping into anything too flashy. Designer Keren explains that the vision for this Bedford home was all about bringing the outdoors inside.

With nature surrounding the property, it made perfect sense to weave in botanical patterns and organic textures throughout. From leafy wallpapers to garden-inspired fabrics, each room feels fresh and connected.

The dining room captures that spirit beautifully, and the living room continues it with classic Toile de Jouy wallpaper.

This elegant room strikes a perfect balance between traditional charm and tailored sophistication. Twin striped settees with rich wooden frames face each other across a sleek glass coffee table topped with a dramatic floral arrangement.

The symmetry is enhanced by floor-to-ceiling curtains and matching French doors that flood the room with natural light.

A mountain landscape above the table adds a serene, grounded touch, while the chandelier overhead ties everything together with a quiet nod to rustic elegance. It’s refined yet welcoming.

The living room takes on a deeper, cozier palette that feels warm and timeless, perfectly in step with the home’s traditional character.

To shake things up, the designers added a rich pop of red through a painted dresser and a pleated pendant light, creating a bold but classic contrast.

Keren describes the space as a thoughtful mix of old and new—architectural salvage, custom millwork, British and Scandinavian patterns, and a blend of vintage finds and contemporary pieces that make the room feel layered and lived-in.

Tucked into a cozy corner, the deep navy armchair invites you to settle in and unwind with a good book. Framed by painted bookshelves and vintage wallpaper, the space feels layered and luxurious without trying too hard.

Antique furniture adds character, while rustic vases, old books, and a few carefully chosen ornaments bring the shelves to life.

The soft contrast of white details against the dark blue gives the whole setup a sense of calm elegance that runs through the rest of the home.
