12 Scandinavian Style Ideas That Will Bring Your Bedroom To The Next Level

Sharing is caring!

Minimalism is amazing. Plenty of people love it, for a reason of course! But what happens when minimalism is made even better?

Add a sprinkle of patterns, a couple of neutral colors, and of course some soft and comfortable textures, and there you have it – an improved minimalism aka the Scandinavian style!

Scandinavian style has been reaching new heights of popularity so it’s not surprising that people are looking for all the possible ways to get as close as possible to that beauty of a look.

That’s why today I’m giving you the 12 Scandinavian style ideas that will bring your bedroom to the next level!

1. Light Wood Furnishings

Scandinavian style is all about wood! If you prioritize light wood, you’re pretty much halfway there to getting the perfect look! Try looking out for oak, pine or ash wood in order to not stray away from its lightness!

This style uses a lot of natural materials, so wooden furniture is sure to add that scandinavian feel!

From the walls, over the bed frames all the way to the closet! Feel free to combine the wood all you want! You can be pretty practical with it and add some wooden chairs, or go down the aesthetic route and display some wooden decor.

2. Use The Colors Of The Nature

As this style uses a lot of natural materials, it’s not surprising that its color theme usually has a natural feel as well!

We’re not talking only about the greens of the greenery and browns of the earth (although them too!) but also the beige colors of the sand or yellow representing the sun.

With such natural colors, you’ll no longer feel as if you’re spending time only in a Scandinavian bedroom, but out in Scandinavia! And I’m sure we can all agree that it feels amazing when an interior place reminds us of being somewhere else, out and about.

3. Other Colors Can Be Neutral Too

Of course, you don’t have to strictly look for the natural colors, as long as you keep them in the right shade.

Nature might not be pink or blue but your bedroom can be! As long as the colors you choose are not vivid, but are instead in that neutral tone, you’re right on the right track!

Don’t let the neutral feel of the style discourage you from painting your dream pink or purple bedroom! Those colors are still very much “in the game”!

And this goes out for any piece of furniture in your bedroom, it can be your bed, desk space, or even walls!

4. Try Out An All-White Look

This is the last one of the color tips but surely not the least!

Natural and neutral colors are not the only ones perfect for the Scandinavian type of bedroom, there’s one more! It’s white, and if you want to go even more drastic, all-white!

Despite being more rare than light green or beige, an all-white Scandinavian room is a stunning choice which always feels like a breath of fresh air!

Not only would this color make the bedroom feel more bright and light, but it would make it seem way bigger than it is as well!

5. A Scandi Bed Is A Must

What’s a Scandinavian bedroom without a Scandinavian bed right in the middle? Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this idea, Scandinavian beds are pretty neat I’d say!

With its tapered legs, the bed might seem like it’s floating once covered in blankets! And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to make you feel. As if you’re sleeping on a cloud! Who knows where the dreams on this bed would take you, perhaps Scandinavia?

Something very specific about it is its clean-lined headboard, and extra points if it’s a wooden one! We already established the importance of (light) wood in Scandi style!

6. Add A Statement Chandelier

Do you know when you’re wearing a pretty simple outfit and think to yourself “This fit could definitely use a statement necklace”? Well, this is kind of the same thing!

The Scandinavian style is pretty minimalistic, so a statement chandelier would not only add the literal light to the room, but the aesthetically pleasing one too!

Another amazing choice would be a very long arched lamp which ends right in the middle of the room! Those are super popular recently, and I totally support it!

So, one thing to remember when you go lamp shopping, don’t be scared to go bright and bold!

7. Create Balance With The Patterns

Scandinavian style rooms don’t have to be plain though! In fact, it would be way better if they were not!

Play around with shapes and textures, add some fun details to it! Make it look and feel even more your own!

Do you want bed sheets with diagonal lines? Or maybe curtains with a floral design? Feel free to experiment and add any type of pattern to step away from the pure minimalism of the space! That will add a certain freshness to your room right away!

Isn’t this bedroom with the floral design stunning? There’s actually more to it over here!

8. Make It Warm And Cozy

The previous idea explained how you should play around with the patterns of the room and how it looks, but you should also play around with how it feels!

Have you or anyone you know been into knitting recently? You can add a tiny knitted blanket on top of your bed! Or a carpet that’s going to be so soft it’ll make you want to sit on the floor while doing crossword puzzles or reading!

All of these details are bound to make your room feel much more warm and inviting.

Minimalism can give off quite a cold look sometimes, so make sure to avoid that and make it seem like a little comfy haven. Because at the end of the day, all we want for our bedrooms is to feel like our comfy, cozy getaways.

9. Put Up Meaningful Decorations

There’s one mistake I often see people make when it comes to Scandinavian bedrooms so this was something I had to include: put up meaningful decor!

Yes, this style does have a minimalist background, but as its name suggests, it’s only its background. The style itself prefers some decorations on the wall or the shelves!

Not just any decor you see on the Internet though, put up something you actually like! It can be some of your books, photos or miscellaneous items which hold special memories.

That way you’ll bring even more warmth to this space!

10. Use Functional Furniture

Considering the huge use of natural materials and colors, it would be quite an oxymoron to use furniture that’s super futuristic and can’t be used. The bedroom would immediately lose the main theme.

Instead, use up the space of the room for functional furniture

How about a comfy chair in the corner which can serve as a reading nook? Or a cabinet which you can use both for storage and for displaying some of that meaningful decor!

The main focus of the Scandinavian style is wooden and natural materials, and there’s loads of things you can make out of wood. So, why not combine the two? You can make a mini bench as an extra sitting spot, or a bedside table! There’s so many options!

11. Combine Different Styles Such As Japandi

Who says once we choose one aesthetic we have to stick to it? That’s such a myth!

If people listened to that, we would have never gotten this absolute beauty of an aesthetic which is Japandi! A combination of Japanese and Scandinavian styles!

Essentially, it can be described as a functional and an elegant space, combining the Japanese craftsmanship and Scandinavian style.

12. Or Combine It With The Parisian Vibe

If Japandi isn’t something you’d like then you can mix and match with some other style!

Take a look at this bedroom which has the right amount of elegance and softness from the French aesthetic paired with the Scandi wooden style accompanied by the statement chandelier!

Styles can mix and match as you like them! Who knows, you might invent a whole new aesthetic once you mix the Scandinavian style with something else! So don’t be scared of experimenting!

Have you been interested in the Scandinavian style before too or did you happen to accidentally stumble upon this article? Because if you did, I’m sure you just fell in love with the aesthetic!
