I’m ashamed to say how many times I’ve fallen for the perfect romantic getaway house.
One too many times. And every time, it’s just a random house with a fireplace with no charm, scenic view, privacy, or x factor. When I enter a place I’m staying in, it needs to have a soul. It needs to… make me feel like I belong there.
After visiting lousy places that were pretending to be the best spots for folks who appreciate a dash of romance, I almost gave up.
Keyword almost, because I found what I was looking for all these years.
I found the most romantic getaway house.
And I’m not gonna be selfish and will share it with you.
A Tiny House As A Dream Come True
At the foothill of the Adirondacks Mountains, New York, lies a place hidden from prying eyes. And so much different than a getaway an average New York citizen would wish for.
The Hickory Outpost was built as a retreat, a dream come true of one family who can already see that this house isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place meant to be filled with love.
Emily, the daughter of the family, came up with the idea of building a tiny house on the land they already owned. The location, almost in the middle of nowhere, couldn’t be more perfect for the big plan.
It took time. It took lots of effort. And, on top of all of it, it took significant financial resources to help the Outpost rise from their dreams and stand proudly.
But it was all worth it. What Emily and her family built is beyond impressive, even for a tiny home.
The Gorgeous Hickory Trees
Now that the build is done, blueprint papers of the tiny place can be bought from Emily over on Instagram. I bet there are folks standing in lines to get the conceptual plan for their own tiny outposts!
As the name suggests, the Hickory Outpost has found its place among the historical hickory trees on 100 acres of land. The house is completely private, and no one will be near to bug your ideal romantic stay.
The thing that impressed me the most is the fact that you’ve got everything you could wish for and even some luxurious add-ons. All that in a tiny building AND it still has the lovely atmosphere? Sign me in!
I’m So Obsessed With This Part Of The House
I kid you not.
I’m kinda obsessing over this little sanctuary in the woods, so bear with me. I promise you’ll soon be obsessing too!
When Emily decided to build the Hickory Outpost, the first thing the house needed was a driveway for guests. The house was placed in the middle of the woods and wasn’t connected with modern communications. Everything had to be done from scratch.
Where used to be grass and dirt now lies a driveway ready to fit your car, and your partner’s too. No unwanted guests. There’s no place, shoo!
The moment you step out of the car you will be magically taken into a fairytale because that’s all this house is.
The outside of the Outpost has a dominant sloped rooftop propped by black beams that serve as columns. The house was finished using light-colored wood panels and big, picture windows. You can already tell it will be roomy, bright, and comfy inside.
And it truly is!
Sleek And Shiny
Thanks to the open-space concept, as well as the large windows, the Hickory Outpost doesn’t look tiny inside at all.
The interior doesn’t look tiny at all, or make you feel like you’re lacking space and comfort. And it’s not only daylight that comes with these windows; it’s the scenic view too!
Oh, just imagine waking up with such a view! Incredible.
As minimalistic as it seems at first glance, the interior of the house was designed keeping in mind functionality, sleek design, sharp colors, and simplicity.
The Prettiest Blue Shade
In terms of shape, the house is rectangular, so all the sections in it are lined up. First, when you come in, you find yourself standing in a tiny hallway that has the cutest bathroom ever on your right.
I immediately started googling subway tiles in my area because I knew exactly where I had to put them in my home. I was so inspired by this sweet getaway spot (and I still am).
It’s About The Details
The bathroom is so chic and neatly done. I have to be biased here because the marble sink, gold faucets, and the midnight blue his and her vanity are totally my style. Can I copy this bathroom into my house, please?
Stars Above You As You Rinse Your Shampoo
Oh, and let’s not forget the functionality! This small bathroom also has a washer and dryer combo tucked in on one side of the wall, as well as a glass shower with a half wall and a simple toilet bowl on the other.
Hold on, hold on… There’s still one more thing I absolutely adore in this room: the rooftop window!
A shower with a view? You raise your head up and you see clouds drifting by or snowflakes chasing? That’s just incredible and I’m a bit jealous I don’t have the possibility to have one.
Please, don’t think that the bathroom is my favorite spot in this tiny home. I still have other amazing parts of it to show you.
This View Beats Breakfast At Tiffany’s
Moving on…
Just a few steps forward and you’ll find yourself standing in the kitchen. Of course, the kitchen is miniature, but you don’t come here to cook a full-course dinner.
You come here to feed each other with leftovers, to make a cup of coffee for your partner in the morning, and to grab a quick bite before you go snuggle some more or head out for a day full of adventures.
Still, the kitchen has all the basics you could ever need during your romantic getaway, including wine glasses for that special evening you’ve been planning for months.
Man Cave Vibes
If the two bar stools aren’t cutting it for you, you can always hop on the gorgeous leather couch and eat your sandwich made with love.
Speaking of love… Don’t you just adore how beautiful this couch blends in with the interior? It’s got the most perfect shade of brown leather and I can see from the picture how comfy it is! It’s the best seat in the house, a seat with a view.
The Best Seat In The House
Oh, never mind… I know better seats with the view and it’s the king-sized bed nearby.
Just laying here, cuddling, and watching nature outside would mean the world to me. Sometimes, you don’t need to fill your day with big things. It’s the little things that matter. It’s the silence with the person you love that counts.
And here, you get exactly that.
I’ve been talking about the experience way too much. I can’t forget to point out some more things I love about this house, design-wise. For starters, the accent wall behind the bed in stone blocks. PERFECTION!
Sage Green As My Favorite Kind Of Green
And the details in sage green and honey-brown wood elements spoke to me the moment I first saw them. Whoever was dabbling with the interior design of this tiny house was an expert. Or, at least, that person has a terrific eye for beauty.
Romance Can Live Outside Too
If you, by any chance, end up in the Hickory Outlook because this tiny home is on Airbnb, don’t forget to drag yourself outside too.
I know it’s so incredible inside, and you’ve been waiting for this magical romantic getaway for centuries, but the outside has some romantic touches to offer too!
A dash of luxury calls in the form of a hot tub where you can even go skinny dipping (no one but the bear is watching, okay?)…
The Great Pumpkin
… and a sauna, where you two could really sweat it off.
Am I the only one who thinks of this orange sauna as one giant pumpkin? No, just me? Oh, well… Way too many pumpkin spice lattes, I guess…
The Best For The Last
My favorite part of the spacious outdoor space is the patio.
Add two chairs, a fire pit, and a cozy fall night, and you’ve got the best recipe for romance Everything else will come naturally.
The Hickory Outpost is a tiny house with big vibes. It’s a getaway to escape your worries and commit to the things that are really important to you, such as your partner.
In my book, the definition of the ideal romantic getaway will from now on stand next to the picture of the Hickory Outpost.
