Anyone who has ever lived or knows someone who lives a military life, knows what a hard, but honorable life that is.
It’s one thing to serve your country when you’re single. But, when the family comes, circumstances drastically change. You no longer get to switch bases throughout the States. You get stationed, and your family gets a home in the military complex to use.
One family was pretty tired of such a lifestyle. They wanted their comfort no matter where the base was transferred to.
Houses at the base are okay, but Russel and Sarah wanted something they both love.
Enter the scene: their lovely home on wheels!
Living In And Out
Adapting to living in a tiny house does take time, but the family says it took them a year to get used to everything. Now they wouldn’t trade it for anything!
While building the tiny house, the couple asked the constructor for an addition: a covered deck!
It was one of the best moves ever because now they spend more time outside than inside. The deck comes as an alternative living room, a family area where they all gather to eat and hang out.
We Hang Out Outside
If they ever get bored of an open deck, they can always shut it in glass windows. However, the climate where they live is spectacular, even winters are so mild that they can easily live outside all year round.
The heart of the tiny room is the kitchen. They had to cut down the living room space inside to fit all the rooms they needed, but it’s okay. The family already spends most of their time cooking yummy meals and chilling on the deck.
The Heart Of Every Home
There’s quite a lot of place in this kitchen which even fits a washing machine, an oven, AND a dishwasher which was a must. If I didn’t know better, I’d say it’s a kitchen in a normal-sized house since it’s so spacious with plenty of storage cabinets.
A great thing about this area is that it opens outside so you can cook while the family sits right outside.
A THOW With A Normal Shower
Down the hall is the family bathroom which fits everything a normal bathroom does. This house is just a tiny house in terms of size. The family had some clever solutions which allowed them to have good-sized rooms they use the most.
Who needs an extra large bedroom when all you do is sleep in there? It’s much more practical to have a spacious bathroom that suits your needs.
I love how they kept on using black hardware in the bathroom too. It gives a nice contrast since the rest of the space is crispy white and clean.
Cozy Corner For Parents
Surprisingly, they managed to make room for all three bedrooms, so every household member has their own private space. The parents’ bedroom is downstairs and it’s just a piece of their little heaven with lots of natural light coming through those wide, rectangular windows.
The Storage Stairs
To get to the girls’ bedrooms you need to climb the stairs. And when I see cubicle stairs, I know there’s storage under them.
The couple did a great thing and installed drawers in the stairs! If I had them in my house, I’d definitely do the same thing. It’s such a great idea!
Now, up those stairs…
Welcome To Kids Land
… is a little kids’ heaven!
The entire upstairs floor is girls allowed only. The space is divided with closets and half walls, but it could be separated with real walls if the girls want full privacy. For now, it will remain like this, with beds in corners, play areas, lots of toys, and even guest beds when their friends come for a sleepover!
Sarah mentioned that they gave the girl the freedom to decorate the place the way they wanted.
Little Girls’ Kingdom
You can’t go wrong with kids style. It’s happy and vibrant, and no one should comment otherwise.
The great thing about their room is this little vent window which can be opened. This allows the air to circulate throughout the house, to avoid any problems with stale air and mildew. And, when it’s laundry day, the girls can just open the tiny window and throw their laundry down to their mom to wash it.
Russel and Sarah thought everything through very well. Their decision to live off the base, in their tiny sanctuary, on their own terms is one of the best ones in their lives. They never have to worry about liking the house in the base.
Wherever they get transferred, their loving home gets to tag along.
Duty comes first, but family should never be put second.
