The future is today.
How many times have you heard this saying? Lately, I’ve been hearing it a lot. When you think about it, we are really living in the future. I see more and more futuristic styles, new technologies, and innovative approaches in architecture and interior design than before.
Am I glad that’s happening? Absolutely, yes.
Am I curious what the building would look like in a couple of decades? Of course!
Then what are we waiting for? Let’s take a glimpse into the future by checking out the top 15 houses that are already living in the Tomorrowland!
15. Villa Epsilon
Most futuristic homes were built to stand out, but not this one. Villa Epsilon was designed and built to blend in with the unspoiled nature around it.
The villa may look smaller in size compared to some other places on this list, but the internal space of 1,600 square feet doesn’t lie.
Epsilon can brag about being one of the most eco-friendly places too, because during the building process, the architects took in mind lots of easing factors, such as using a cross-ventilation strategy to reduce the need for an AC.
I bet during hot summer days, inside the villa is so refreshing and cold, like in a den.
14. The Capitol Hill Villa
It took 140 million dollars to design and finish The Capitol Hill Villa, a piece of modern architecture that looks like it was stolen from the future.
The first look at it makes you believe it’s not a house at all, but a top-secret headquarters of some organization the world doesn’t need to know about.
Still, it is a home, on four levels, 28,000 square feet, with a glass elevator that takes you up. The sole purpose of designing such a building was to achieve the utmost privacy.
Let’s just hope the visitors from outer space don’t see this house or they’ll ask to move in.
13. The Sky Garden House
Traditional roofs are so outdated, right? How about trying something new? The designers of The Sky Garden House had a brilliant idea.
Taa-daah! Gardens on the roofs!
Each of the roofs has its own little garden covered in grass which helps reduce the carbon footprint and increases the quality of life in this house.
Keeping in mind that the Sky Garden house is placed in a relatively densely populated area, adding roof gardens seemed like a terrific idea to gain more outdoor space!
12. High Desert House
A house that is there, but you’ll never know how to find it on your own!
The house was designed to blend it with the rest of the Joshua Tree National Park where it’s located on its very edge.
A total of 26 freestanding columns were used to build such a massive structure that hides 5,000 square feet of space.
Its ultra-futuristic design reminds me of the remains of a giant dinosaur. When a house doesn’t look like a house, then you sure know it’s a modern design ahead of its time.
11. NOEM Spaceship House
Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a spaceship? Now it’s possible with NOEM Spaceship house!
The house that looks like a UFO has landed on Earth is actually a pre-built console that was put together on the spot and supported on 13-foot-tall galvanized steel struts.
Everything inside is controlled by a smartphone app. I’m sure there is a button somewhere to make it fly into space, back to the home planet.
10. H3
As simple as that. The H3 futuristic home has 75,000 square feet of space AND a forward-looking designs that reminds us of a boat floating above the ground, or in this case, the swimming pool.
Besides being ultra-modern and looking like it belongs in the year 3000, this house thinks of the environment and makes the best use of it by incorporating geothermal energy to heat and cool the place. Talking about thinking forward.
9. Tresarca
Las Vegas has a lot to brag about, including Tresarca, one of the most innovative houses in the world.
What makes me such a huge fan of this house is the mesh structure all around the upper level of the house which adds an intriguing factor. Not only does it look stunning, but the mesh also helps with natural light distribution throughout the house.
Just when we thought roof designs were at peak, something like this comes up.
8. Los Terrenos
Hard to see, but it’s there.
If the definition of a futuristic home is a non-standard design, this would be an absolute winner. There’s a house, but it somehow isn’t really there. The Los Terrenos house’s exterior is completely covered in mirrors. During the day, you can’t even see it until you get closer.
Don’t try looking for something more private than this because you’ll never find it.
7. Shellhouse
What would you do if you found yourself walking through the forest and suddenly you stumble upon a house? And not just any kind of house.
The Shellhouse gives me goosebumps with its ultra-futuristic design. Te purpose of covering the heart of the house with a shell-like structure was to keep it safe from the wind.
Interestingly enough, while building the house, they didn’t use a single harsh chemical of a machine that could disturb the nature around them. Sustainability at it’s finest!
6. UFO House
If E.T. saw this house, he would never wish to go home.
Instead of building from scratch, the designer decided to reconstruct an older cabin and give it a new life.
The UFO house does have an extraordinary shape, but inside of it promises a warm and welcoming atmosphere thanks to great timber isolation.
Hmm, I wonder would it be that welcoming towards visitors from other planets?
5. House On The Flight Of Birds
At least the name is beyond every usual standard.
The dominant red wall isn’t there just because the designer thought it would be cool. Indeed, it is cool, but it’s also super practical because it protects the house from rain and wind.
But, what does this house have with birds? Why such a name?
The whole idea behind the name has a lot to do with the curved walls of the main building. Such innovatie design reminds you of a bird’s body position when it’s flying.
Isn’t that neat?
4. Komb House
I had to komb the entire world to find such an interesting house.
Not only do these wooden sections provide privacy, but they also add the uniqueness factor which is becoming hard to achieve when you have so many innovative designs.
Besides being super cool-looking, Komb House is also cool because it takes care of the environment. There’s not a single lightbulb in the house that drains more energy than it has to. Everything is so eco-friendly you won’t believe it!
3. Staab Residence
A house from the future overlooking one of the greatest landscapes in Arizona, The McDowell Mountains? Yes, please!
Built to adapt into the surrounding environment, the Staab Residence is a special building with a special twist: the upper-level exterior in mirror panels. This way you get even more of those gorgeous mountain views!
2. Modular Houses
Want your house and want it fast? Try modular homes!
Modular houses are the future. They can be customized and modified any way you want, making sure the cost of such build is reduced and sustainability is at high level.
In about 50 years, traditional house build will belong to the past, especially since more and more futuristic and innovative techniques are being used.
1. Neo-Andean Architecture
Bold. Vibrant. Daring. Yes, I can see how the future brings exactly this.
The Neo-Andean architecture is a peek into the future with its colorful buildings, expressive lines, and a tendency to stand out among usual buildings.
If you ask me, I prefer future with these kind of houses over the ones we’re seeing in SciFi movies which are cold, lifeless, and a bit scary.
