I Can’t Believe They Were So Bold And Built A Mansion Here

Sharing is caring!

I can’t believe they built a mansion here, right on the site of an abandoned quarry!

This incredible transformation has turned a forgotten piece of land into a stunning architectural marvel.

Once a rocky landscape became a beacon of luxury, elegance, and contemporary art. It’s not every day that you build a house on top of a stone wall, and the one thats 40 feet tall.

It took great courage, responsibility, and skills to make this place first a mansion, and then a home.

But, the architect Stephen Harris did it anyway.

Today, where they used to dig feldspar rose quarts, now we have the Bedford Quarry house, the proof that nothing is impossible.

The old quarry was abandoned when they hit the water. That’s why the house is now surrounded by the idyllic serenity of the water surface and extraordinary vegetation benefiting from it.

Such a house can only look incredible from the inside too. I knew things would be interesting here, but I never imagined how much!

I love the fact that everything here is subjected to the view outside.

Stepping inside, you’re welcomed by a stunning void that leads outside into the woods. There’s a massive glass wall that lets in so much natural light and an interesting light fixture that shines lovely when that natural light is gone.

Coming down the curved staircase, you end up on a main platform where the kitchen and living room are. It’s the place in the house where the owners love spending most of their time and I can see why.

The area is open to all sides, allowing you to see everything outside and enjoy the view. Having breakfast overlooking the old quarry and the woods around it? Sounds like the dream!

The family area was done in lovely, earthy tones with a pop of surprise such as the granite floor or the wood elements in the kitchen and dining room.

What’s interesting about this house is that each new part of it gets revealed in sequences as you walk through it. Downstairs you have the family zone where everyone wants to hang out, exits to the terrace and the balcony, and upstairs is the relax zone.

The master bedroom may not have the same great view as the living room, but it’s still an impressive piece of design. The bed is the central point of the room, open to the outside through stunning picture windows.

The natural color palette continues upstairs too, reminding you of the surroundings outside, the stones, the wood, and the symbiotic relationship. I don’t know about you, but these colors work so relaxing to me. I wouldn’t mind waking up in here and getting ready while looking outside into the woods.

The other two bedrooms up here are the children’s rooms. As you can see, the family does not have small kids; they are more like teens. The rooms were designed for modern young adults, focusing on functionality and creating cozy zones. I mean, would you look at that comfy window nook?

Isn’t it spectacular with the view and everything!

This house isn’t like your usual modern mansions with ultra-cool gadgets and furniture that looks like it came from the other side of the Universe. It’s modern, but with a style!

Of course, we can’t forget another major zone of relaxation and comfort besides the terrace.

It’s an unusual-shaped pool area with a pool house and a lounge zone, and it’s on the other side of the property. Placing the pool far from the tranquil natural water of the quarry lake was done on purpose. Here you come to have fun. Back there, you get out to find your inner peace.

Building an architectural artwork in such an incredible, yet odd location is a masterpiece like no other.

Take a closer look at everything: you have a mansion you only see in movies, a perfect piece of nature on one side, and a sprinkle of luxury on the other.

You have a solid structure with glass walls that make you feel like you’re actually outside rather than inside.

It’s the unity with the surrounding nature that makes this mansion so special.

It’s the boldness to build on such a place that makes this architectural piece legendary.
