Minimalism has been absolutely everywhere for quite some time now. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about bedrooms or living rooms, or pure minimalism versus something like Scandi style. It’s had a total reign over the others!
So, it was time to start letting its “wilder” sibling get some appreciation again as well! Don’t get me wrong, maximalism is surely not new to the game, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen it in its full glow! That is until recently of course!
More and more people are craving for the colors, the shapes, for tons of decor in their homes!
Considering it is already knocking at our doors, I’m sure plenty of you are also interested in getting some maximalist ideas to revamp your interior! That’s why I’m bringing you 8 best maximalist interior designs that will surely help you freshen up your indoors space!
1. The Viral Gallery Wall
When it comes to some recent HIT maximalism trends, this one has been the most famous one. If it was a song it would be number 1 on the charts for months now!
Although I have been seeing most of them set in living rooms, the gallery wall is something you can incorporate into any room you like!
Do you want your place to feel like a museum once you have guests over? Place it in the living room! Do you want to appreciate something you have created and that describes you and your interests well? Place it in your bedroom so that you can wake up to it every morning!
What’s fun is that the gallery wall leaves you with tons of options and ideas! It’s an amazing way of personalizing your space! You could put up a bunch of different photos that are seemingly unrelated to each other, or you can make a theme such as “butterflies”!
If you have an eye for the arts, you can even put up your own photos! That way you could have your mini exhibition at home while also decorating your area.
It’s not surprising this is a fan favorite, am I right?
2. Go Back In Time
An amazing maximalist idea is decorating it in some aesthetic from the past decades. Do you want the funkiness of the 70s? The grunge from the 90s? Or the super bright look of the 60s?
Find any decor matching the era of your choosing, make sure it’s not all cluttered but actually looks good together, and you’ll immediately feel as if you’ve gone back in time!
Doesn’t the 60s inspired bedroom from the photo above look amazing? The vivid colors, the vinyls used as decor on the walls, all of the essentials from the 60s have been used to make this spectacular bedroom!
The only thing left is to put on some 60s playlist and enjoy your time-machine bedroom!
3. Tiny But Mighty
This blue kitchen made me want a tiny home right away. It’s so cute!
Maximalism can very well be included in the kitchens. I know that when you think of the words “kitchen stacked with so many things” you usually think of something messy, but that doesn’t have to be the case!
Look at this absolute beauty from the photo above. Its cooking equipment is used as decor and can be found all throughout the room! Above the countertop, on the walls, on the mini shelf under the window! The room is totally maxed out and, in the best way possible!
Don’t even get me started on the blue walls and blue cabinets whose vivid colors add to the maximalist feel of the home even more!
This tiny maximalist kitchen can be an inspiration for plenty of tiny maximalist homes! So take a good look into it, and check out the other rooms of this breathtaking home right here as well!
4. Think Outside The Box
Going maximalist is actually way easier than many people think.
You may assume you need tons of decor of all kinds, super strong colors all around, and while those things contribute to maximalism, they’re not the only way to get there! You can use your own already existing items to create something maximalist.
While redecorating your bedroom, get some open shelves or an open clothing rack and let your clothes do the job! No need to hunt for any further decor, it’s like maximalism on a budget!
For some more maximalism on a budget, get a jewelry holder that’s also open, don’t hide your colorful necklaces and bracelets inside of a box!
After putting all your items on display, not only will you have a maximalist vibe inside of your bedroom, but it will surely be super practical trying to find your clothing items as well!
5. The Natural Vibe
Despite popular belief, nature and greenery can also bring in some maximalism. Quite often they are connected to those cozy, peaceful and minimalist interiors, but there’s no reason not to use them in maximalism too!
They create something I would like to call “cozy maximalism”. It’s where there’s still all kinds of decor spread throughout the room, lots of different shapes and items, yet it feels pretty warm and homey.
A bathroom is an excellent place for a “cozy maximalist” vibe we’re talking about right now! You can put a white bathtub in the middle of the room, and then just build around it!
Add some tall shelves filled with tons of bathroom necessities and decorations. Add tons of all kinds of plants, potted ones, hanging ones, tall ones. More green ones, less green ones, any kind. And definitely paint the wall a color other than white, or a mixture of more colors!
6. Monochrome Maximalism
Maximalism doesn’t have to be filled with all different kinds of colors and shades, it can be all one color!
An amazing example are kid bedrooms! You know when you have a daughter obsessed with pink, or perhaps a son obsessed with blue and they want their entire room to be that exact color but also very fun? That’s monochromatic maximalism!
Take a look at the photo above. From the unique pink couch, over the glittery pink curtains, all the way to the pink walls and tables. This room screams fun, joy and so much decor! And yet, everything is in one color!
I have used a kid bedroom as an example, but you can certainly take on this aesthetic in your living room or any other area as well! I’m sure that something very cool and unique can come out of decorating a place in a monochrome maximalist aesthetic!
7. Less Is More
You may be surprised at the “less is more” quote when it comes to maximalism but it’s true, sometimes you don’t need a lot to create a lot!
At times, all you’ll need are two simple items: a couch and a shelf. Not any kind of course, we certainly won’t make a maximalist heaven out of an all-white furniture, but take a look at the one on the photo above.
A green couch with fancy wooden framing, and a floor-to-ceiling wooden shelf, already ready for all kinds of decor.
You can stack the shelf with books with colored spines or mix it up with various decor. The point is those two things, with the shelf filled, can be enough to create your maximalist haven!
8. Rustic Maximalism
The rustic kitchens go without saying! They always have that amazing maximalist vibe that’s so cozy!
Every time I see a log cabin, it has the kitchen filled with all those wooden shelves filled to the top and wooden cabinets with unique textures. What makes it even better are the various additions of lovely, floral curtains and lamps!
They are an amazing example of a maximalist space that doesn’t have too many vivid colors, but is simply filled with all of the different textures that add the dash of uniqueness and magic.
Its delicious smells coming from those yummy meals are just the cherry on top of rustic maximalist kitchens!
