Owning a beach house is one of my dreams. I don’t know if will it ever become true, but I’m working on it.
I know there are lots of people sharing my dreams out there.
I’m a summer child and I love everything that has to do with the beach, especially spending some time in beach houses.
If your dream has come true and you’re one step away from having your own place by the ocean, then you’ll need some inspo.
It’s not easy to build a house, but with these 11 beach house design ideas, your build will be eased and you’ll soon be relaxing on the beach and drinking cocktails!
1. Classic Beachy Vibes
I remember one summer back when I was a kid and my family rented a house on the beach for a month. It was the best summer ever!
The house didn’t look a lot like the one in the picture, but the vibes I’m getting from it are the same.
The loveliest shade of blue makes the house pop next to the ocean, among the forest of green palm trees and bushes. It’s a blue gem with white trims, frames around the fenestration, and balcony railings.
The house is full of Southern chich and charm and reminds me of old houses on the Florida or Georgia coast. It’s a classic beach house design that’s been around for decades and, despite the many modern structures rising it will always be a trending style.
When on the beach, go beachy I guess…
2. The Modern Beach Vibes
As I mentioned before, beach houses have always been small, white or blue houses in traditional style in my mind. But, as I grew as an interior designer, my POV expanded and now I see that everything could look good as long as it’s on the beach.
This modern structure has a flat roof and wooden plank facade, something you normally see on the beach but not in this rustic brown color.
What makes this beach house so modern and different from the others is the contemporary structure and the dimension of the house with a second floor that almost appears to be floating in the air.
All that this picture is missing is a boardwalk leading straight to sand dunes and the refreshing ocean behind them.
3. The Interior That Matches The Location
Of course, a beach house should have a beach-inspired interior design. What do you mean it doesn’t?
My idea of the ideal beach house has to have a similar interior, with subtle details that remind you of the location you’re at. I mean, if you’re going on a quick vacation in a beach house, you want to feel like you’re really on the beach. Seems logical, doesn’t it?
This living room features the style I’m talking about and it looks super cozy and comfy. I wouldn’t mind crashing in here for a quick afternoon nap before I hit the waves again.
4. Lots Of Outdoor Seating Spots Is A Must
Whenever we go on a quick beach holiday, our nights look pretty much the same as in this photo. My family and I love sitting by the fire and having family time there rather than inside.
Lots of outdoor seating spots is a must for me, and I’m sure it is for a lot of you guys too. What I mostly do in such terraces is admire the sunset and enjoy the sound of ocean waves going on deep into the night.
When picking out your ideal beach house design, you should always consider a terrace like this one, with comfy furniture and great views. Trust me, this will be your favorite part of the house!
5. Glass Walls FTW
Modern beach houses feature a lot of glass walls and picture windows. It’s actually rare to see a wall that’s not a glass one. The design we’re all using today has so many great sides. Personally, I completely support this direction and the reason is quite obvious.
Why should you hide something when it’s so beautiful? I’m talking about the view, of course!
If I had a house on the beach, and I had to figure out what it should look like, I’d have glass walls and windows all over the place so I could always see the ocean from where I am.
When you add high ceilings into the equation, you get an incredible, contemporary building that’s gonna be the envy of the neighborhood.
6. Bright Interior That Lights Up The House
If you squint your eyes and use a tiny bit of imagination, you could say this picture window is actually a picture. All that’s missing is the frame!
Picture windows, especially horizontal ones, are always so nice to look at because they feature incredible landscapes to look at. This one here, overlooking the ocean, is the picture-perfect… picture!
Keep in mind when picking your beach house design to use light furniture that will bright up your house. Nothing too dark, vibrant, or too many patterns. It’s an unwritten rule that most beach houses feature light blue color palette. However, I’d steer away from it and pick gentle shades of beige and grey.
7. Infinity Pool By The Beach
I guess when you have enough funds, everything’s possible. And everything is logical. Why wouldn’t you have an infinity pool overlooking the ocean? I say if you can, then do it.
For a summer person, having the ocean and the pool right next to each other sounds idyllic! I can’t tell you how much I love swimming, so this would definitely be the perfect setup for me.
The modern white house in the back is, of course, a beauty, but the whole complex is just too special to have one thing stand out the most.
Oh, well… I do have to show you the tiny house with the hammock. I think I’m in heaven!
8. The Open Living Room
It’s not technically the open-concept living room, but the living room is open to the outside, connected with the terrace without any transitions. The seamless blend of the two spaces is incredible!
I always loved the idea of having a living room out in the open. It’s like you’re living outside, but you actually aren’t.
If you want to spend most of your time out of the house, why not do it with the utmost comfort? This luxurious outside living room is such a better idea than a regular patio with furniture.
9. Pool With The View
I know most of you would think why do you need a pool when you have a house on the beach?
But, hear me out, the pool can be quite useful because the ocean isn’t always too friendly for swimming.
Besides the stunning, irregular-shaped pool overlooking the ocean, this beach house design is spectacular in many ways. It’s a Mediterranean-style house, a single-story one, with beautiful terraces. This is what I love the most about beach houses; the exterior seating areas!
Give me balconies, give me such luxurious terraces so I can go outside, sit down, and enjoy my beach day ending.
10. The Luxury Of Being On The Beach
Ah, I’d give everything just to live on a beach…
I’m a beach person and I love everything that has to do with the ocean and summertime. Living on the beach, and being able to hop in the water anytime you want is one of my many dreams.
And having a tiny house on the beach with a nice patio covers pretty much all of my unfulfilled dreams.
The lovely tiny home built using nothing but wood and natural materials blends in with the beachy surroundings perfectly. However, my favorite part of the house isn’t the patio, although I love that too. It’s the roof made of thatch, something you don’t get to see a lot.
11. Big Beach, Tiny House
Now we’re talking!
You won’t find a house that’s more a beach house than this one right here!
As a true fan of tiny homes, this tiny beach house is by far my favorite today, even with all those fancy designs, open spaces, and glass walls.
The most important thing about a beach house, in my opinion, is the proximity to the beach, and this tiny house is an absolute winner.
When funds are tight and you care more about the location than the house itself, this tiny house idea with a small porch and a hammock in front of it is the way you should go.
Final Touches
Is the beach house of your dreams ready for building? Have you picked the ideal beach house design you want?
I have to say I’m so happy you were on this quick beach trip with me. This means you’re looking for ideas and only a step away from having the home of your dreams in the location of your dreams.
Just don’t be a stranger and let your friends come over for a bonfire party once everything’s done, okay?
