History always repeats itself, whether it’s about fashion trends or house designs. It’s a sort of an unwritten rule that every couple of decades some styles emerge from the past and are given a new life.
Sometimes the designers are the ones that bring back lost trends. Yet, sometimes people start using some of them more often, and then a trend is reborn.
Either way, they come back, and you can either accept them and be happy some are alive again, or keep on with your distinguished taste.
This year is almost over, and we know what that means: we sum up the last year and give predictions for the upcoming one.
Of course, the leading designers have already agreed on what’s gonna be trendy in a month or so.
Do you want to check if your old favorites are back in the game?
1. Wallpapers, Welcome Back
This year, the biggest goal of home designing is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Hence the huge comeback of texturized wallpapers and accent walls done in different techniques like plaster or wood paneling.
When I was a kid some thirty years ago, wallpapers were all the rage. Dare I say, the ones trendy today are little masterpieces compared to those back in the day?
I don’t know about you, but this purplish-red shade of wallpaper reminds me of the foam you get while pouring wine. It’s absolutely beautiful. The wallpaper, not the wine part, okay?
2. Patterns Clashing Is Okay Again
Mixing patterns is making a stylish return, bringing a fresh, dynamic energy to home decor. Minimalism is so last year! From bold florals to geometric designs, there’s no limit to the combinations that can be used to create an eclectic and visually rich environment.
Still, you have to remember to hold balance in everything, especially when combining patterns. You won’t be using two different floral patterns. But you can use florals with tiny stripes, polka dots, and so on. Use your imagination to create a room full of character.
The wallpaper you see is actually part of a tile that carries the wonderful symbiosis of floral and geometric elements
3. Let The Maximalism Hidden Inside You Finally Speak
The focus has switched, once again, and this time around it’s on personal expression. Maximalism is back, whether you like it or not, but I bet you’re gonna love it! There’s a new definition of the style meaning you should layer elements to create a harmonic setup.
I believe maximalism used to be an excuse for overcrowding a space and just tossing everything on one shelf, the things you didn’t know what to do with.
With the new approach, the result should be a dynamic, visually stimulating environment that feels warm and welcoming as if the room itself has its own history.
Instead of empty, neutral spaces, maximalism embraces a vibrant mix of textures, vintage pieces, and unique art, creating rooms that feel lived-in and full of character.
4. From Now On, You’ll Be Mixing Metals Too
I was never a fan of mixing gold and silver jewelry. I never did that in space either. I was just too old-fashioned. But times do change. As much as I love my principles, I can admit some new changes are growing on me.
The trend of mixing different metals is huge right now, and I see it growing even more in the future.
Imagine a silver chandelier paired with black-framed furniture and copper details on the shelves. It may look tacky at first, but when you incorporate everything with harmony, the end result can only be marvelous!
It’s exciting, isn’t it? We’re finally allowing something everyone thought was the biggest red flag of interior design.
5. Appreciating Handcrafted And Vintage Items
I can’t tell you how much I love that vintage is back, especially the sense of appreciating old and handcrafted items. Whether it’s a piece of bespoke furniture, a handwoven rug, or locally made ceramics, these items not only add character but also support sustainable practices by reducing reliance on fast fashion.
We can all agree that mass production of everything is getting out of hand. Let’s bring back common sense and repurpose something if it can be repurposed. I mean, buying a mass-production chair in vintage style is ridiculous. Browse antique shops, and you can find that exact chair, but with character and history.
Think of an antique mirror above a sleek, modern console table, or a hand-carved wooden chair paired with minimalistic decor—it’s all about blending the old and the new in ways that feel intentional and meaningful.
6. The New Color Palette
Enough with all 50 shades of grey! Sorry, Mr. Grey, I wasn’t talking about you. You can stay.
I’m done with grey this and grey that. Anthracite in every room, bombarding me from every corner. What happened to warm tones, earthy shades, and naturals? Were they all buried in the ground?
Well, I’m glad the minimalism trend is over because some of us prefer living in a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Terracotta is back, as well as olive green, browns, beiges, and ochre. Basically, any earthy shade you want, you get it!
The space becomes super cozy and heartwarming if you add a major piece in such a trendy shade. A terracotta sofa sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?
7. Natural Materials To Create A Natural Atmosphere
Marble was always my favorite. I didn’t care that the trend had disappeared for a while. I still have marble in my home. Needless to say, I was excited to see the marble trend coming back big style, like never before.
This time around, we don’t do marble only in bathrooms. The whole house is our canvas!
As you can see in this living room, the accent wall behind the sofa is in white marble panels, as well as the coffee table. Personally, I find this material even more attractive when combined with gold accents.
Known for its elegance and natural beauty, marble’s luxurious appearance is being embraced again, particularly in bold veining and earthy tones that complement modern, eclectic spaces.
8. Layered Lighting For Cozier Feeling
Lastly, layered lighting. The final trend I’m eager to welcome is enjoying a revival, offering a sophisticated way to enhance the atmosphere and functionality of a space. By combining ambient, task, and accent lighting, this trend adds depth and dimension while highlighting key design features like artwork or architectural details.
The days of one giant light fixture in a room are over. No more huge chandeliers. No more light artwork installments. From now on, we focus on smaller lighting bodies, lamps, pendant lights, accent lights, and pretty much anything that creates a subtle light, a cozy atmosphere that increases the homey feeling.
9. Checkmate, Checkerboard
Checkerboard patterns are strutting back into the spotlight for 2025, proving that timeless classics never truly fade away.
Whether it’s bold black-and-white or playful pops of color, this retro design is adding a fresh edge to modern interiors. Perfect for floors, backsplashes, and even tabletops, checkerboard is the design world’s new way of saying, “Why settle for boring when you can make a statement?”
It’s nostalgic yet contemporary, making any space look effortlessly cool and a little daring.
