Baby, it’s cold outside, and I don’t mean it as a song. Finally, colder days have arrived where I live and this is the first time I’m actually super excited about the cold wind and snowflakes already finding their way down to the ground.
Why, you might ask?
Well, it’s all because I’ve finally found a way to make myself completely cozy and comfortable at home thanks to some little tweaks I made to my living room. I’m happy to say it’s a cozy oasis after all those failed tryouts.
If you’re having issues finding the right amount of coziness in your home, then you need some stylish advice. And what better advice than an example photo of what cozy living rooms really look like?
1. The Fireplace As The Center Of All Happenings
When someone mentions coziness, the first thing that probably pops into your head is a fireplace. And that’s absolutely justified! Fireplaces add warmth and a homey feeling to every room.
Adding a fireplace, even if it’s an electric one, and then building a mantle around it, will bring you so many cozy points and change the entire energy of your room. I did that a few years ago and it was the best decision we ever made about our home.
What’s so great about fireplaces is that they adapt to pretty much any style. This here is a mixture of contemporary elegance with a dash of retro vibes. I’m loving the white bricks on the fireplaces and those gorgeous built-in shelves.
When you add the incredible amount of fluffy throwpillows on the sofas to the equation, you get one extra cozy living room as the end result.
2. Experimenting With Colors
Black is to add a bit of bold attitude to the room. Black is for adding dimension too. And character as well!
I’m super happy that black has gotten its rightful treatment after all these years of being ignored by white furniture-loving people. I was one of them, but now my mind has opened. I appreciate different styles, especially when they’re combined together.
In this cozy living room, it’s the color black that brings the industrial style into the room and creates a more realistic atmosphere. Nothing’s too pristine, white, and spotless. The room is vibrant and energetic, with black elements as far as your eye can see.
Of course, there’s another fireplace in the picture that adds warmth and coziness, and it’s super effective as a statement piece in black.
This living room is a terrific example of how a room doesn’t have to be all beige to appear cozy.
3. You Can’t Go Without Lots Of Throw Pillows
The first step you do when you want to make a room cozy but your budget is tight is to add a bunch of throw pillows. No, they won’t bug you or steal a place on the sofa. They’ll make you comfortable!
This combination of terracotta shade, light blue, and white works so nicely together. It instantly calms down the energy in the room and helps it appear more subtle, cozy, and relaxing.
Thanks to simple furniture pieces with clean lines, the room is a contemporary beauty offering much-needed coziness. All you’re left to do is grab that blanket on the sofa, light up the fire, and doze off into dreamland.
4. Different Styles Promise Coziness Too!
Having a cozy living room doesn’t just mean having a room with a comfy sofa, a fireplace, and a bunch of pillows. Different styles, such as boho, can also feature cozy vibes.
Here’s one boho living room that has so many wonderful features, I don’t know where to begin! How about we talk about that sofa for a second? The innovative design just screams comfort.
When you add some nice pillows and combine it with the rest of the small furniture pieces, you get one magazine-worthy scene!
Although I do love mixing colors and proving to everyone that everything else except beige can look snuggly and cozy, I have to admit that all this beigeness makes my eyes relax. Gee, I wonder how relaxed my body would be if I took a little nap on that sofa?
5. The Cozy Japandi
Lately, the Japandi style is becoming more popular in the States. I’ve seen many lovely Japandi living room ideas online, and I’m waiting for the moment when my clients would come and ask me to design their homes in the japandi style.
I absolutely love the low-profile furniture, especially the sofa and the coffee table. The sofa is so modern and futuristic, but it still somehow guarantees the utmost comfort.
If this doesn’t look like a giant cloud on which I could nap in the afternoon, I don’t know what it looks!
6. Dim The Lights
A cozy atmosphere can be achieved if you use dimmed lights instead of bright lamps and chandeliers that illuminate every corner of the room. Such lighting in the room creates a romantic setup and works completely relaxing on your mind.
Admit it: You feel much more comfortable in a room with dimmed lights than in a room where lights are pointing to you like scene spotlights! And that’s totally normal.
Adding a bunch of lamps all over the place, turning them on instead of the main light fixture, will create the desirable effect and make even the simplest living room appear super cozy and welcoming.
7. The Cloud-Like Furniture
One of the first things that pops in my mind when someone mentions cozy rooms are beanbag chairs. So unconventional, right?
Well, when I was younger, beanbag chairs were all the rage and I thought they were the most comfortable thing ever.
Of course, that was teenage Nora, but still… I wasn’t far from the truth. And the truth is: although not the comfiest things in the world, beanbag chairs will make you feel like you’re floating on a cloud.
A great thing about this living room is that it’s got a sofa similar to the beanbag chair, low on the ground, fluffy and comfy-looking, and simply giving out cozy vibes.
