As the year comes to a close, it’s time we finally start doing some recapping and preparing for the upcoming one!
In the world of housing that, of course, always includes the talk of trends!
So today, instead of talking about what you’ll be seeing often in the year of 2025, I decided to share a couple of things all interior designers are suggesting you leave in 2024!
Get ready for 10 interior design trends we won’t be taking with us in 2025 so you can enter the new year your trendiest self!
1. Gray Everything
Late 2010s made a huge deal out of black and white interior! It was everywhere and it even managed to get a status of that “neutral” design that goes with everything.
While during its peak it really was an amazing sight, it’s time to say goodbye to it.
Warmer tones such as beige have already slowly started replacing the grays of the living areas, bedrooms, etc. However in 2025 we will be seeing a full switch.

2. One Overhead Light
It’s time to switch off the overhead lights and switch on the various lamps spread around your home.
Mood lightning is able to change the atmosphere of your place entirely! Instead of having that super strong lightning that makes you feel as if you’re in a mall, more toned down mood lightning will do wonders in creating the most cozy vibes in the room.
Another plus side of them is that you can change things up when it comes to that kind of light! Let’s say you have 5 different kinds of lamps in your living area. Sometimes you can turn on all 5 or you can experiment with 1 or 2. Yup, such a simple difference can make an impact!
3. Accent Walls
Don’t get me wrong, this is not interior designers telling you not to have color in your rooms – it’s actually the opposite!
2025 is the year of going big and bold! So, why stop at having an accent wall? Why not paint the entire room that color? Some rich dark green in the bedroom or a dark blue in the kitchen would look amazing! It’s time to start coloring it up!
4. Complete Minimalism
Minimalism is something that can never go out of style for those who simply can’t fight their lifestyle. Minimalism is their thing and that’s the way it is!
However, for those who are simply following the trends, you should be aware that minimalism is definitely toning down for now! Especially full minimalism!
Having just a couple of furniture pieces in your living room is so out, maximalism is totally where it’s at right now! You don’t have to go all out in decorating your maximalist place, however do branch out a little!

5. Curvy Furniture
Something that we can learn from Gen Z is how open they are to experimenting with new things and decor items.
Mood lightning, for example, is something I often see used by them and kudos to that! But, they also have a couple of things that started trending when they started taking over that have now lost their popularity.
One of those things is curvy furniture. Yes, those round couches that seem cute but are not very practical, or the wobbly lamp stands.
They are an excellent representation of the early 2020s BOOM in interior decor, but in 2025 we won’t be seeing them much as their time has passed.
6. All-White
Just like the time for black, white and gray interior design has passed, so did the time for all-white design.
It’s time you add some colors inside your home, some personality!
You can paint the walls of the room with one of many colors that are going to be trending in 2025, or you can at least add some life to your place by adding some smaller colorful touches. Anything is good, as long as it’s not all-white!
7. Over-Staging
There’s no reason for your room to look like we have just entered a furniture store, right?
While those look nice, they don’t have any warmth and coziness to them. It’s simply things that were bought because they were on display and seemed to match in the store.
But where’s the personality in them? Is there any part of those items that show that someone actually lives there?
Instead of over-staging your room and making it look like a magazine cover, add your personal touch! Make your house a home by having your name written all around it!
8. Black Hardware
Black goes with everything, we know that. But, as already clarified, it’s time to enter 2025 by going big and bold. So, why not color everything up, including the hardware?
My personal suggestion? It’s definitely the golden hardware. No matter which aesthetic you decide to go for it’s going to look excellent! Maximalist room with purple walls and golden hardware? Check! Elegant room with light pink walls and golden hardware? Check!
See? It’s not just the black that goes with everything, you just have to think outside the box and experiment a little with other options that await!
9. Matching Furniture
Matching furniture doesn’t have to be matching. Sounds funny? Okay let me explain it in more detail now.
Until now we have usually bought matching furniture if we wanted to match. For example a black leather couch with a black leather sofa and a black leather chair. A trio that goes together.
But you don’t actually have to get the exact same furniture in order for it to match, in fact it’s encouraged not to do that in 2025! An off-white couch with an orange sofa can look amazing together even though they have nothing in common!
Who knows which amazing combination can come to life once you abandon the pure matching and decide to mix and match!
10. Singular Style
For all you that get indecisive when it comes to decorating and can’t come to terms with just one aesthetic – it’s your time to shine!
In 2025 singular style is on its way out the door! Why fit yourself inside one specific box and decorate your entire home like that? Maybe someone likes both elegant and farmhouse styles, or the retro 70s and y2k looks. Whatever it is, you can combine it!
This is probably my favorite thing that is going out of style cause I’m someone who loves mixing up a variety of themes in my living space, so it’s good to finally be in trend!
