We spend so much time in the kitchen since, well, eating is non-negotiable!
But staring at the same old space day after day can get pretty dull pretty fast. And a full-blown makeover isn’t so easy as we may not have the time nor the resources to do so.
Luckily, upgrading your kitchen on a budget is entirely possible with a bit of planning and smart strategies. To make it easier for you, I have compiled a list of ideas to help you refresh and modernize your space without breaking the bank.
1. Cabinet Refresh
Painting over or staining the woods of your old cabinets in a new color can make the whole kitchen look brand new. And the best part is, you can have fun picking all the colors.
You can also swap old handles and knobs for new ones – blue and gold always look so luxurious.
If you are looking for a more drastic change, consider removing some of the cabinets and creating open shelves. This will definitely give your kitchen a more airy and modern appearance.
2. Backsplash Makeover
We all know that changing tiles isn’t so easy. But you know what is easy, putting up peel-and-stick tiles. With them being super affordable, you can plaster your entire kitchen!
Plus, with all the designs they come in, I am sure that everybody will be able to find one that suits their kitchen the best.
You can also get this effect by painting over your existing tiles and or adding a beadboard.
3. Countertop Upgrade
Because we use our kitchen countertops the most, they tend to get worn out the fastest.
If you aren’t able to replace the whole countertop, you maybe can purchase a countertop paint kit that is specially designed for you to design your workstation for a fraction of the cost. There is also the option of laminating it to mimic a more expensive material.
You can also replace certain sections of the countertop with a butcher block that will add some extra-warmth.
4. Lightning Updates
Replacing outdated light fixtures with some trendy pendant lights or some modern chandeliers.
One funky idea that I began loving as of recently is putting up lamps in the kitchen. It makes those late night snack runs feeling so luxurious.
But if you are leaning more towards the modern feel, then under-cabinet LED strips are the way to go. They are both cheap and super easy to install.
5. Wall Color Refresh
I know that everybody likes a clean, white wall in theri kitchen. But you don’t have to limit yourself just to white. Choosing a lighter, neutral color will also make the space feel larger and brighter, but you will also get that fun pop of color.
And if you really want to stand out, why not put up some funky wallpaper or an accent wall!
6. Sink And Faucet Improvements
Adding a sleek, new faucet can instantly transform your sink area into a new area of your home.
And if you don’t feel like replacing the entire sink, you can just get a DIY sink refinishing kit. It will make your entire sink look brand new without going through all that trouble.
Washing the dishes will become fun once more!
7. Flooring On A Budget
I think that tearing up your entire floor is the biggest renovation your kitchen can go through. But not only is it super expensive and messy, it will also take you days to do. And you can’t be left hungry, now, can you?
Luckily, man invented peel-and-stick tiles. They are super easy to install and are available in a variety of styles – from fun patterns to imitations of wood, stone and other materials.
You can also just opt for a stylish rug or mat. It will add color and comfort without you having to commit to a full floor chair.
8. Decoration
I think we are all aware by now how big of a change even the simplest decorations can bring.
And who told you that you can only decorate your living room and bedroom. Expressing you through your kitchen is also an option!
From open shelves, wall art, little trinkets or just tiny plants such as herbs, your kitchen space can transform into the best version of yourself.
9. Appliance Makeovers
Kitchen appliances are quite expensive and replacing them should only be done when they completely stop working. But this doesn’t mean that you are stuck with them until they are broken.
An easy way to give your appliances a makeover is by painting them! Feel free to choose any color you want or just freshen them up by getting the same one.
You can also change out the knobs and dials on older appliances to give them a modern touch.
10. Organization Solutions
Usually, when I would come across a kitchen that I absolutely love, I could never put my finger on the thing that attracted me to it. Until one day I realized that every single one was super organized.
So, I got a couple of organizers and now I even consider sleeping in the kitchen.
Not only will they keep everything nice and tidy, but they will also keep your entire kitchen both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
11. Upgrade Your Windows
By simply swapping out your old curtains and blinds can make your kitchen look brand-new.
My suggestion is going with lightweight materials to let more natural light in and create a more inviting atmosphere.
There is also the option of creating custom Roman shades from inexpensive fabric for a touch of elegance without spending much money.
15. Add A Statement Piece
You know when you wear a simple outfit and adding just a colorful scarf or a sparkly necklace can make the whole thing pop? Well, the same can be done in a kitchen.
You can either get a unique, statement-making light fixture to hang over your dining table or add a stylish wall clock or an oversized piece of art and your kitchen will be overflown with character and charm.
But, in my humble opinion, even just one tip from this list will have everybody in awe when they step inside your culinary wonderland.
