I’m no Superman, but I sure would love to spend some time in this Fortress of Solitude.
The Niliaitta black cabin with its ultra-futuristic design looks like something out of this world. It’s giving vibes of a top-secret hideout no one knows about.
Tucked away in a deep forest, the unique cabin hosts only those seeking the ultimate tranquility. There’s not a living soul out in the miles. Okay, maybe an occasional bear, but you’ll be safe and soon you’ll learn how.
The Story Behind The Niliaitta
Niliaitta isn’t just a name; it’s a piece of tradition. From the land of Santa Claus, the tradition and practice of building elevated structures has proven to be functional in multiple ways.
First, they built niliaittas to protect their food and supplies from bears and other wild animals. And then, they figured out it was much warmed up in elevated treehouses than on the ground.
Our Niliaitta looks like it’s almost floating in the air. If it wasn’t for the stairs and the support pole under it, this would be the real treehouse.
Inspired by this tradition, Studio Puisto simply had to build an homage to old niliaittas. The new Niliaitta, the modern one, has such a stunning rustic appearance. The black, charred wood exterior of the treehouse features no windows but one big window wall upfront.
Anything else would just be too much. The key is in the raw simplicity.
The Complete Contrast Inside
Just the picture of a charred black home in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but trees and snow seems idyllic. It’s a scene stolen straight from imagination!
When the night falls, the window wall casts shadows around the tiny house and everything starts to look so magical.
With such a deep, dark exterior, the inside has to be quite contrasting.
And I was right.
The interior is a complete contrast to the black exterior. Everything is so bright and light-colored. Thanks to the giant window wall, lots of natural light is coming in making the Niliaitta such a pleasant tiny house.
The light wooden walls are simply too stunning and they look like they come from these woods. Using natural materials and avoiding compromising the landscape around the Niliaitta was the main focus of the building process.
The house is more like a small apartment or a hotel room since it doesn’t have a functional kitchen. There is a small kitchenette and a dining nook behind the bed for you to sit down.
The way I look at the Niliaitta is that it’s a retreat spot where you come to relax as much as possible. If you want to sleep all day, then sleep. If you want to sit by the window and enjoy the view or go wandering outside for hours, no one’s stopping you.
Everything is so submitted to the nature and materials coming from it.
As you can see, this is an all-wood interior. No plastic, no unnecessary metal parts or stone. It’s pure wood and I bet the smell in here is incredible! I absolutely adore the scent of wood. It instantly makes me relax.
That’s the whole point of this tiny house: to relax, forget about your daily worries, and breathe in the simplicity of nature.
The Niliaitta is one of a kind. The concept is beyond interesting, and the execution… simply marvelous!
