These 8 Mediterranean-Style Living Room Ideas Will Give You The Coastal Serenity You’ve Been Looking For

Sharing is caring!

If I had to pick one style that’s always so popular despite the change of time, it has to be the Mediterranean.

Simple colors, earthy tones, a splash of color here and there, and open spaces. Big, airy, incredible open spaces! If they had a mind of their own such rooms would love to be outside.

The whole point of this style is effortless comfort so you can feel good about yourself. It’s a mantra a lot of people are swearing by.

That’s why I’m not surprised to see a lot of people changing their homes and picking between cool Mediterranean-style living room ideas. The decision of which way to go is a hard one because the Mediterranean style is so stunning.

Still, I know that these seven living room ideas will help to create a room where you’ll feel like you’re somewhere on the Mediterranean coast.

1. The Traditional Style Still Wins Hearts

Traditional doesn’t mean outdated. It’s a style that never fades because it’s so deeply imprinted in us all. The classic Mediterranean-style living room features mostly earthy colors. There are shades of brown, and beige, an occasional terracotta, and plenty of wooden tones.

The Mediterranean style mostly focuses on bringing nature inside and showing off the best sides of it. Such living rooms love a completely earthy color palette with warm tones and natural materials only. It’s no surprise to see exposed beams as a trendy part of the room, or plants everywhere.

This style shows you that you can create a homey atmosphere with the things nature has given you.

As you can see from the example of this living room, a bunch of subtle earth shades have been used to make the place appear welcoming and homey. It’s airy, bright, and open to the outside making you wish there’s a chunk of sea peeking out behind the bushes.

2. A Pop Of Yellow

Yellow is the color of the sun, at least that’s what we all associate with this color.

But, yellow is the color of happiness too. Yellow are the lemons you take to make a refreshing lemonade. Yellow are the sunflowers you seek to take photos next to them. Yellow is that new bikini waiting for you to accept your body and finally enjoy the summer.

Yellow is the Mediterranean, a pop of color that makes the traditional space refreshingly unique.

If it wasn’t for the yellow throw pillows, this living room would be too plain, a bit harsh-looking, and a bit intimidating. It would be a living room that reminds you of furniture store setups.

Basic colors need a dash of vibrancy, another color palette that will stand out and make the room look spectacular.

The combination of brown window and door frames agains the beige walls needed something extra. The yellow was the right choice and the reason why we could picture this living room exiting a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea down the cliffs.

3. The Amalfi Lemons

Blue and yellow always remind me of the Amalfi coast. Their widely popular lemons were the inspiration for this Mediterranean living room. Of course, since the region is a gem of the Mediterranean, this living room deserves all the praise it could get.

The Mediterranean style isn’t just open spaces with earthy shades everywhere. To me, this style uses happy colors, vibrant shades, and things that remind you of an unforgettable summertime in the Mediterranean.

The Amalfi yellow and blue have been my favorite combination of colors for the past couple of years. The gorgeous blue shade stands for the impeccable sea on the Amalfi coast. The yellow of the lemons is such a lovely contrast. No wonder this duo has been super-trending for years!

Basically, any blue and yellow will do and you can get these vibes in your home too. However, the full experience is only guaranteed if you add a little lemon tree like the one in this living room. I can only imagine the smell! It smells like limoncello and fun days at the beach, doesn’t it?

 4. The Airiness Of The Space

Keeping everything nice and bright is one of the most important features of any good Mediterranean living room idea.

When designing this living room, the designer obviously had that in mind because this is one of the biggest and brightest ideas you’ll see today. The space was cleverly designed to fit a nice, big sofa with lots of pillows and still have space to move around the room.

Besides the airy feel you get, there’s something else in the living room that makes me like it so much.

Yes, it’s the tree-stump coffee table, of course! What a fun way to spice up your classy Mediterranean living room.

5. Living Room Perfect For Afternoon Siesta

Siesta, riposo… Afternoon nap, and it’s calling you to crawl onto this comfy sofa, shut the blinds, and take a nap.

If you want to have a Mediterranean-style home, the best thing you can do is to embrace the Mediterranean lifestyle. This includes enjoying life to the fullest and taking time for yourself to process everything and feel good about yourself.

Living rooms in this style have to be comfortable, airy, bright, and inviting. And that’s everything this room is! You get extra points if you pick major furniture pieces like the sofa in some of the colors front the Mediterranean color palette.

This deep blue is incredible and it reminds me so much of the sea around the islands in Croatia. There’s no prettier sea than that one, my friend!

Also, this style requires you to add elements that will emphasize the connection with nature. The exposed beams on the ceiling are the ideal link, as well as the wooden furniture around the room.

Still, my favorite part has to be the cozy hammock chair that whispers you in to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

6. Wooden Furniture Is Staple

You know why I love the Mediterranean style so much? It’s a living piece of untouchable history, something that developed through the ages.

Most parts of the Mediterranean weren’t as prosperous as others. Life was simple. There were no funds for rococo furniture or thick oriental rugs. Everything was modest, and so was the furniture.

Ever since the beginning of modern times, real wooden furniture has been a sign of quality. It still is today. But, crafting your own furniture out of wood is a whole other dimension. Simple Mediterranean homes had a lot of crafted furniture pieces.

This living room has a round coffee table that looks like it’s been in the family for generations. The table gives me vibes that some great-grandfather carved it out of the wood he found himself and made for his family to have.

7. Where Does This Ship Sail?

Yes, the ship, because this living room features a ship-shaped coffee table!

Welcome to a more unusual side of the Mediterranean style!

Everything that’s linked with the sea and nature can be called Mediterranean style. This includes that wacky ship-shaped table too.

When you think of it, it’s actually more Mediterranean style than just earthy colors. I mean, it’s the sea!

This is a unique piece shaped like a little boat, even colored in a lovely blue shade to help it resemble a real boat on the sea!

Everything is white and blue in here, an homage to the beach and the airiness of the style. Although having so many details in the same color border with tackiness, I’d say they stopped right where they had to. One more thing would be too much.

A living room like this one either wants a fisherman to spend his days in here or a true sea lover enjoying every sand pebble and every salty drop of the sea.

8. The Santorini Simplicity

The picturesque white houses with blue rooftops are everyone’s association with Santorini. The simplicity of the design in this Mediterranean jewel is what leaves breathless a countless number of designers and architects.

To me, Santorini isn’t just the perfect holiday destination. It’s proof that even the simplest things can mean so much.

The living room you’re looking at doesn’t have the typical colors linked with this place. The designer has gone with the lovely red-orange tone, an ode to the vulcanic sand beaches in the area

This shade of red really pops out, especially against the crispy white walls and the wooden fenestration. While the furniture is simple in this Mediterranean-style living room idea, it’s the combination of colors and the use of earthy basics that should inspire you for such a room.

Final Touches

Whether you want the Santorini simplicity or you want to indulge in the beigeness of the classic Mediterranean-style living room ideas, you can find your inspo here, all in one place.

The Mediterranean style is not just decorating with sea-themed pieces or picking only terracotta and beige shades for your home.

It’s a way of life where the simplest things are appreciated more than any other luxurious style.
