8 Cottage-Style Living Room Ideas That Will Allow You The Coziest Relaxing Time

Sharing is caring!

I’m sure we all have those times when we imagine going away to a cute cottage home somewhere outside of our usual setting.

A place that feels so cozy, warm and comfy and completely manages to turn off our everyday worries by gracing us with its beauty and comfort.

However, what’s even better is when we don’t have to imagine going away to a place like that but can actually do it!

If you’re thinkin about making a place for yourself in a little cottage, or perhaps simply decorating your current one with some cottage vibe to it, I’m bringing you 8 cottage-style living room ideas for some extra inspiration!

Sit back, relax and check if any of these lovelies catch your attention!

1. Cozy Idyllic In The Mountains

If you’re somewhere in the mountains, or anywhere where it snows a lot, you need some big windows! Preferably floor-to-ceiling ones too!

The view from them would be absolute heaven! Watching the snowflakes fall would add onto some cozy atmosphere on its own, without you even having to do much inside of the house! And let me not even get started on the lovely lightning the huge windows provide!

Despite the snowy outside scenery already impacting the coziness, it would still be nice to actually decorate it a little, don’t you think?

For some extra warmth and comfiness, it’s only natural to add some wood elements! Combining it with neutral colors and warm lightning would be wonderful!

I can already imagine some hot tea waiting on that round table in the middle of the photo above, while the company sits around on the comfy sitting areas! The only thing I would add would be the fireplace! It would be a cherry on top for a place like this!

2. Modern Yet Minimalist Look At The Lake

When we’re talking about modern interior, we can usually think in two different directions: the more minimalist one and the maximalist one.

If your little getaway cottage happens to be somewhere in the countryside, for example next to a river or a lake, the minimalist modern interior would be just perfect.

Once again, I totally recommend floor-to-ceiling windows like the one in the photo. The beautiful scenery like this should never be left unused and unseen! You should take advantage of it! It will make for a lovely view for you, while also being a decoration on its own!

Considering the outdoors scenery makes for a good chunk of decor, you don’t have to go too hard with the interior! A simple comfy couch facing some sofas would be good enough!

You could add a flat-screen TV opposite the couch too, but with a lovely view behind it, who cares about the TV anyways!

3. Personalize Your Loft

For those of you whose cottage living room would be in the loft area, or whose living area has that slanted vibe that simply gives off the feel of a loft, there’s one thing I’d absolutely do. You know what? Personalized everything in that space!

Lofts have always been those spaces that feel like a getaway to your dream world. When I hear “loft” mentioned I immediately imagine all of my favorite things over there. My books, journals, CDs, all of it.

Why not put a floor-to-ceiling shelf filled with hundreds of books? A comfy chair in the corner, covered in a soft blanket, that can feel like your mini “book nook”? Your living room would also be your mini escape room!

Of course, it doesn’t have to be books and the “book nook”, you can decorate it any way you like! Add some artworks, magazine cutouts, sports equipment, it doesn’t matter! As long as it feels personalized and yours!

4. The Comfy Cabin Feel

For those who are more interested in a cabin-like cottage feel, I’m sure you’ll love this rustic living area!

The brown, wooden walls immediately make sure to give the room that warm and homey feel, while the rest of the interior continues in the same direction with the wooden table and a white painted cabinet.

Something I love about this cottage-style living room is that I can imagine it being an amazing place to be at on your own – just reading a cozy book and relaxing. But also, hanging out with a small group of friends, just joking around and laughing together.

For some extra coziness, and that mixture of a cottage and cabin-like vibe, don’t forget the warm lightning! The lightning manages to impact any room there is, so it’s sure to make this living room reach its fullest potential as well!

5. Log Cottage In The Woods

living room with windows all around, flat-screen tv, black fireplace, wood beams, brown carpet

For this idea, we won’t stray too far from the previous one considering it has the vibe of a log cabin with its exposed wooden beams! This one, however, is set in the woods!

You already know what I’ll mention now, right? Say it with me – a lot of windows

Sure, they don’t have to be floor-to-ceiling (although they absolutely can) this time, you can experiment! As long as you don’t leave all of that natural surrounding somewhere in the background! Use it to your fullest potential!

The mixture of a natural surrounding and a rustic interior would look amazing! The interior would blend so well with an area like that! Just add some fireplace, some wooden decor, comfy sitting areas and there you go – the coziest cabin-like cottage living room ever!

I wish I could spend some time here! It looks like the absolute best place for some healing and rest.

6. Mix Up The Modern With Traditional

Cottage-style living rooms can be both modern and traditional, but are those the only two sides? No, they’re not! They can be something in between too! And I love that!

The combination of a patterned carpet, on the photo above, and some modern furniture such as a brown couch accompanied by a round, brown table looks amazing and conforms to both styles!

What’s even better is that you can use things that kind of fall in the middle spectrum anyways! Such as the pillows with different textures that can be used both in the modern and the old-school traditional aesthetic!

And of course, you can’t go wrong with some plants! As a classic that has lasted for centuries now, plants make for a good addition whichever style you decide to go for! So you can be sure that they’re going to do an amazing job at being a cherry on top!

7. The Cozy Vibe Marks The Cottage Look

living room with a fireplace, gray couch, round carpet, dim lightning

One thing that comes to our mind quite often upon hearing the word “cottage” is cozy! And what’s an interior item that comes to your mind when you hear the word “cozy”?

Mine is surely the fireplace!

Even with the interior being super simple, if there’s a fireplace, the warm vibe will be there (and I don’t mean that just literally) and the cottage feel will shine bright!

If you don’t have a fireplace and don’t have an easy way of having one, you can always experiment! Simply light up more candles, get some dim lightning and take out the comfiest blankets! The atmosphere will be there right away!

This is an amazing idea for those who are not in an actual cottage but simply want to recreate that cottage vibe and feel as if they are in one!

Pro tip: When choosing candles, you can choose one of them to be one of those that sounds like the wood burning and fire crackling! They will increase the atmosphere even more!

8. Go Slightly Luxurious

Cottage-core can feel slightly luxurious at times too! I’m not saying to turn your entire place into a royal-looking one, however feel free to add some elegant touches!

Something like a fabulous chandelier hung above the sitting area in the middle of the room maybe! That would add so much grace to the room!

You can balance out the royal decor with some light floral wallpapers! Cottage inspired rooms love florals, so that would be an excellent touch!

And it would be even better if those floral details are not too big and vivid, some softer and lighter ones would combine wonderfully with the elegant decor additions!

Final Words

Cottage-style living rooms are some of the loveliest ones there are! Whether they are modern and minimalist or rustic and quite filled with loads of decor, they are surely always super cozy!

Simply giving you examples of some lovely looking ones and giving you ideas for your own cottage-style living rooms decor adventures made me want one!
