Slanted walls, A-frame roofs, curves, angles, harsh lines, skylight windows, and limited spaces.
Those are all challenges a designer faces when adapting the attic space into a functional room.
It’s the unwritten rule that most attics are being used as extra storage space. But, that doesn’t have to be the deal. An attic could easily serve as an additional room in the house, even as the master bedroom with the suite and everything.
An attic has lots of possibilities and it’s time to give it a chance as the equal part of the house. Perhaps as a bedroom?
Before that happens, we gotta check out plenty of great attic bedroom designs. Maybe something like these 11 designs you’re about to see?
1. The Rustic Mansarde-Like Bedroom
The rustic charm never fades and it will always be an evergreen. The exposed wooden beams and the dated planks on the wall tell a story of old times. The idea of incorporating something that looks dated (but actually isn’t) into a contemporary-style bedroom gives a dose of freshness to the room.
This white rustic bedroom doesn’t only feature a cloud-like bed in the center. It also doubles as a living room/ office if needed, especially because of that beautiful office nook by the window.
2. The Symmetrical Perfection
Some people don’t like symmetry. They believe it’s too boring, complicated to achieve, and simply unnecessary.
But, symmetry is good. It makes things appear organized, well-thought-out, and simply… perfect!
This beige beauty looks too good to be true. The sides reflect onto each other like two mirrors and I see no flaws visible in this space.
Probably the biggest feature of this bedroom is the skylight windows on both sides of the roof. I honestly don’t know what would we do without them. They’re such an innovation that saves places like attics for ages.
Thanks to them, this bedroom is a perfection showered in warm sunlight.
3. Loving The Natural Wood And Refreshing Greenery
Talk about tall ceilings!
If there weren’t any wooden beams up there, the space would look too boring and sad. The interesting setup of the beams combined with dark hardwood floors and dark furniture creates a lovely contrast to the white walls.
A touch of green on the bedding and plants in every corner of the room is such a refreshing touch.
If this doesn’t belong on the cover of a home design magazine, I don’t know what does!
4. Black And White Contrast That’s Always In Trend
White walls and black exposed beams. Greyish brick wall and white floor. And there’s a central piece, the black floor bed.
Contrasts, contrasts everywhere…
The combination of black and white will never fade. There’s always a way to incorporate these colors and adapt them to current trends. This black and white bedroom is in a large attic with tall ceilings and large skylight windows that illuminate the room.
Everything looks so sterile and yet it somehow still has a soul. Rooms in this color palette are normally too cold, sterile, or boring, but this one is different. The brick wall surely affected the change of the energy, not to mention the plants.
5. Boho Charm In Brick Red
Brick red or dusty orange is returning in big style. In this case, having it combined with boho furniture makes an instant trip back in time to the 1960s and 1970s.
Lots of light wood was used for details in this bedroom to make the elements pop in the space since the floor and the walls are pretty neutral and forgiving.
At first, I thought the console on the left was a heater cover, but a closer look revealed it’s just a lovely table for decorations. On the other hand, I see something else that’s definitely not just for decoration.
The bed, the focus of the room, is an absolute stunner and has a good night’s sleep written all over it. I’d love to jump into and snuggle as I drift into dreamland. Everything looks so comfy. Oh, and that circular headboard is one of the most unique things I’ve ever seen!
What a simple, yet breathtaking bedroom!
6. Introducing The Romantic Chic
It’s Scandi chic meeting romantic style all wrapped up in a blush pink bow of modernism!
The effect of the floating bed makes this attic bedroom stand out in the crowd.
Don’t you just love how the skylight windows let in so much natural light? Combined with a white floor and white walls it’s a winning deal. I get clean, refreshing, and calm vibes from this bedroom.
I wouldn’t mind climbing way up to the attic to spend the night here. The waking up part is too wonderful to miss it.
Only a couple of elements in this bedroom are completely sufficient. It would be a mess if instead of that lovely Scandinavian console table was a dresser or even a closet. If your space allows it, don’t overcramp the room with extra closet space, dressers, and whatnot. Keep it simple and airy.
7. Adding An Edgy Touch
If you have a spacious attic and you’re lacking guest rooms or simply want to redesign your own bedroom, here’s one of the edgiest attic bedroom designs.
It’s a bright space complimented with darker hardwood floors and wood on the ceiling. The bed is on an elevated platform which adds dimension to the room and spices things up. This way it’s possible to have a floor bed without having it look like it’s really on the floor.
The semicircular window deserves an ode of its own!
The other edgy part of this bedroom is the glass ensuite bathroom. Well, actually, it’s only a half-bathroom with a gorgeous soak-in tub.
8. A Toast To The Everlasting Elegance
Elegance will never go out of style. No matter how much you love modern designs, elegance will always be trendy. And, you have to admit, such rooms look incredibly beautiful.
In this attic bedroom, the bed is in focus with two eyecatching nightstands on each of the sides. The color palette used is pastel blue with beige and natural wood.
The entire room is too beautiful to handle, but my personal favorite has to be the plush ottoman at the bottom of the bed. Some might say it’s an unnecessary element, but others would agree it’s an element that adds up elegance points.
9. The Black Elegance
An attic space can even be luxurious if you find the right style that fits you.
I don’t know about you, but black leather will always have that trendy note. If not trendy, at least it shows off as an expensive style.
Instead of regular skylight windows, this bedroom features an angled window on the wall to the left. Even though I love skylights, standard windows are always a better idea because you can at least open the window and look through it.
This bedroom is a masculine combination of black leather, dark wood, and soft grey fabrics that ooze with elegance.
10. Raw Perfection Over Your Head
A while ago, using raw wood, exposed beams, and structures wasn’t trendy at all. People wanted minimalism, monochromatic colors, and almost no warmth in the space. And wood provides exactly that: a warm feeling.
The Early 2000s would say this room is totally outdated all thanks to that ceiling, but current trends disagree. If you want an attic room, at least keep a feature that says it’s an attic. This choice here is just perfect.
The wooden ceiling with a skylight window in the center is one of the most beautiful features I’ve seen so far and it’s the element that makes a simple bedroom interesting.
11. Bedroom With A View
We’re wrapping up with an unusual attic bedroom. Don’t worry, it’s still an attic bedroom despite the fact it’s open to the rest of the house and the staircases.
This modern beauty almost looks like it’s a gallery piece with a bed overlooking the house. It’s a small space because not all attics have to be spacious. Clearly, this has to be a tiny house. The bed with an interesting storage solution under it dominates the space and guarantees rest.
This would be an ideal room for guests when they come over to stay. Modernity with a twist is just what every house needs. I bet no one expects to see such a trendy room up in this unique-looking attic.
Final Touches
Tales have taught us that attics are dark, spooky, and a bit ominous places. After these 11 attic bedroom designs, you’ll find out that’s not true. An attic is a blank canvas waiting for you to repurpose it.
Why have just a boring storage space full of spiders and dust when you can have a cozy bedroom or even an entire suite?
Unlike popular thoughts, by adding skylight windows, attics can be quite bright and inviting. All you have to do is pick your favorite style, and color palette, and start moving those cardboard boxes that hold trinkets from God only knows when.
