People sometimes say how the number 13 is not lucky (Friday the 13th, “not having” the 13th room in hotels) but I was always opposed to that. I quite like that number, it’s always my go-to when playing the lottery!
So, today I chose that exact number of shipping container houses to introduce you to!
Shipping containers are only getting bigger and more famous, which isn’t surprising considering their variety! They can be modern, they can be old-school. Simple or futuristic. There’s just so many possibilities!
If you’re also a fan of containers, or are only starting to look into them (trust me, you won’t regret it) this article is for you!
Sit back and enjoy looking at some of the most stunning containers out there!
1. Starburst House In Joshua Tree, California
We can’t not start this list with one of the most iconic houses generally, not just in the shipping container world!
Formed out of white shipping containers positioned in all sides and placed in the mountains, this beauty is a feast for the eyes for everyone into architecture (or well, anyone with taste)!
Considering its gorgeous location, it would be a shame not to have any views from the inside, right? That’s why each container contains floor-to-ceiling windows and are placed so that you can appreciate the all-around area!
2. The Sea Containers In Index, Washington
For all nature lovers, here’s a beautiful container house that will blow you away!
Hidden away in the woods this place is bound to have some stunning views! Just imagine sleeping inside of a bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows looking at some greenery! Yup, that’s the reality of this house!
You know what’s the best thing about it? It’s that even though it has been built in the middle of the woods, not a single tree has been cut!
Thank you pretty houses for not harming our mother nature!
3. $3.1 Million Container House In Colorado
When it comes to shipping containers, you’re used to seeing steel right away, right? Well, that’s not always the case! An amazing example is this beauty from Colorado!
With its wood covered exterior, it gives off a gorgeous vintage vibe, and I can’t even begin to describe its interior! It stores 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms filled with more art pieces than you’ve seen in your entire life!
Throughout the entire house, a lovely natural light follows as well, which also means it has an immense amount of beautiful views too!
4. Cinco Camp By Rhotenberry Wellen Architects
Now here’s something so unique and different, that I simply know you have never seen before.
This little area consists of five different containers each used for different purposes! The first one has storage and utilities, the second one is a kitchen, and the remaining three are all bedrooms with a bathroom.
How cool is that?
A huge plus is that they are looking at the west, so every day you can appreciate the gorgeous sunsets and enjoy your time in this peaceful oasis.
5. The Hybridhouse_1 By Echo Tech Design
We have now come to the most eco-friendly house in the article!
Built out of 6 repurposed containers, Butler pre-engineered building, large windows and door to allow as much natural light as possible as well as the ability for ventilation and cooling, this house is good for nature and aesthetically pleasing!
Its interior is, as you would expect, quite minimalistic yet it holds that chic vibe which you maybe wouldn’t expect upon seeing its exterior! We love surprises!
6. Box On The Rox In Joshua Tree, California
Can I just say that I absolutely love the name of this house? It’s literal yet so creative!
Box on the Rox is a beauty consisting of three container houses making a U-shaped place! Houses shaped like this are definitely not something you’d see very often, so it’s not only the name of the place that’s creative!
Placed in the desert, it has tons of space for anything and everything you’d want! It is no wonder, then, that it holds a nice refreshing pool, a lounge area and a dining table outdoors!
7. The Glow House In Twentynine Palms, California
I saw the starry sky and I’m sold already!
Something like this is not easily found in cities full of city lights and noise! But in this gorgeous shipping container, you can spend the entire night laying outside and making wishes upon shooting stars!
Don’t worry though, this place is absolutely glorious during daytime as well! With the view of the desert, you will feel as if you’re the only person in the world while watching the lovely sunsets.
With a view like this it’s going to be hard to go inside of the house, but you won’t regret it with the neutral colored yet fresh interior that awaits!
8. Caterpillar House By Sebastian Irarrazaval
With a shipping container this cool, I think we should have more houses named after animals! I wonder how they would look!
This unusual beauty, consisting of 12 containers, would be such a fun full-time place, don’t you think? The exterior is already calling me!
I’m sure you’d immediately agree with me that it’s an excellent living place if you saw its modern black and white interior. If you’re a fan of minimalism or b&w design, this house is probably your dream one!
9. Home With An Acrylic Pour By Zack Smithey
We continue with some black and white vibes, however this one is very different from the previous one!
Imagine pouring acrylic paint over the house and letting that be its color. That’s exactly what this place is! An artist’s dream, I would assume!
It doesn’t stop there! The black and white acrylic coloring is seen on the inside stairs of the house so that it looks like the paint has been poured from the top down! That’s one of the most original things I’ve ever heard or seen!
Aside from the black and white acrylic paint, the interior is graced with some gorgeous paintings and maximalist decor!
10. Air Castle Treehouse In Ladonia, Texas
Have you ever seen a container castle treehouse? Well, now you have!
If you’re not afraid of heights, this place is absolutely perfect thanks to its uniqueness! And, the best thing ever is that it has some stunning views! The higher you are, the more beautiful the scenery is! In which case, let’s add even more containers on here!
You surely won’t regret looking into this place as its interior is glorious as well! With its modern farmhouse style, it’s an excellent destination for just about anyone!
11. The Beach Box In The Hamptons
Container Houses often equal simple and cozy spaces, but why not equal luxury too? This Beach Box, consisting of six shipping containers, guarantees some fun and cozy time in a fancy place!
Despite being close to the ocean, it has its own saltwater pool and an outdoor shower, so if you’re in the mood for a swim yet want to enjoy some privacy, you’ll have no issues!
After a swim, I’m sure you’d want to relax inside and trust me, it would be heaven because the all-white interior also has that beachy yet elegant vibe going on!
12. The Box Hop In Rockbridge, Ohio
We have another “boxy” name, however this place is way different!
Switch up the pool and the ocean with some trees in the woods and you’ll get this absolute stunner!
Made out of 3 intermodal containers, this home provides you with all of the peace you wish for! Whether you want to live here full-time, or you’re interested in a short visit with your friends where you can organize a party, this place a little bit out of town is just lovely!
13. PV14 House In Dallas
Upon seeing this place for the first time, it took me a second to even realize it’s made out of shipping containers, even though it actually consists of 14 of them!
This modern luxury has views across the lake, over the trees and to downtown Dallas!
I’m sure its beautiful exterior would wow anyone (it definitely WOW-ed me!), but its neutral colored interior won’t leave you in awe any less! Then again, who’s surprised? I mean, are we seeing this?
Well, this brings us to the end of today’s little list, and wasn’t it such an eye candy? Every single house had something special to itself ready to blow anyone away!
What’s your favorite out of these 13 houses, or do you have multiple? I know it’s hard to choose just one!
